Executive Committee 01 August 2007- 31 Jul 2010 Dr Rebone Moerane (President) Dr Quixi Sonntag (Vice-President) Dr Steven Cornelius Member The Executive Committee exercises all the powers and performs all the functions of Council during periods between meetings. Any decision taken or act performed by or on the authority of the Executive Committee are in full force and effect, unless it is set aside or amended by full council. The Council established committees to exercise the powers and functions as follows: Education Committee 01 August 2007- 31 Jul 2010 Dr Anne de Vos (Chairperson) Dr Nomganso Nombekela-Madiba (State Veterinarian) Vacant (Private Practitioner) Prof Gerry Swan (Faculty of Veterinary Science, UP) Sr Alison Glen (Veterinary Nurse profession) Mr Johann Müller (Veterinary Technologist profession) Mr Ian Radmore (Animal Health Technician profession) Mr Llewellyn Sinclair (Laboratory Animal Technologist profession) The committee reviews all aspects of undergraduate training and makes recommendations to Council in terms of the minimum standards of tuition and training required for degrees, diplomas and certificates entitling the holders thereof to be registered, to practise the Veterinary and Para-Veterinary professions. The committee is responsible for the annual registration examinations and appoints examiners to set examinations for persons without prescribed qualifications. The Chairpersons of all committees are members of Council Investigation Committee 01 August 2007- 31 Jul 2010 Dr Glen Carlisle (Chairperson) Dr Riaan Mulder (Mixed Animal Practitioner) Dr Mark Verseput (Small Animal Practitioner) Dr Jyotika Rajput (State Veterinary Services) The Committee screens complaints lodged with Council. These complaints are accompanied by the replies received from members. The committee can after scrutiny of the complaints inter alia recommend that a formal inquiry should be held, that there were no grounds for a complaint; that a decision could not be made on the information submitted and that further information should be obtained; or respond in terms of Rule 35 (5) of the rules. The Chairpersons of all committees are members of Council Members with relevant expertise are co-opted onto the committee as and when required. Inquiries: Inquiry Body The tribunals for Council inquiries are constituted of the Chairperson who is a member of Council and one other Council member or member who served previously and two private practitioners or members relevant to the case The Registrar, Mrs H Kruger or the Legal Director is appointed by Council in terms of Section 32 (2) of the Veterinary and Para-Veterinary Professions Act to act as the pro forma complainant at Council inquiries and leads the evidence at these inquiries. Registration and Authorisation Committee 01 August 2007- 31 Jul 2010 Dr Maki Moorosi (Chairperson) Dr Quixi Sonntag (Veterinary profession) Sr Alison Glen (Veterinary Nursing profession) Mr Ian Radmore (Animal Health Technician profession) The committee makes recommendations to Council with regard to applications for registration and authorisation in terms of the Act and make recommendations regarding policies to address the needs of the country. Committee on Specialisation 01 August 2007- 31 Jul 2010 Dr Mike Modisane (Chairperson)- State Veterinary Service Prof Morkel Terblanche (Faculty of Veterinary Science, UP) Dr Martin De Scally Specialist Clinician Prof Fred Reyers Specialist Para-Clinical Field Dr Dave Miller -SAVA representative The committee reviews existing specialist categories with a view to update/amend it, existing conditions and criteria for registration as specialist are evaluated and the committee is responsible for the monitoring of standards of training of the prescribed M Med Vet post graduate qualifications holders of which are accepted for registration as specialists.
